Soi Yeonnam's reviews (139)
You’ve probably heard of TukTuk, one of the best Thai places around the city, but how about its sister brand Soi? I was impressed with TukTuk, so I had high expectations when I went to Soi, and this place went above and beyond what I expected. Let’s start with the Thai beef noodle soup that just hit the spot for me. No need for some chicken soup, this was some amazing Thai noodle soup for my hungry soul. Also, the beef was so tender, as if it was melting in my mouth. Seriously, this soup is everything. You can choose between thin or thick noodles, and I recommend getting the thicker noodles. The thin ones tasted a bit like plastic. And to complete your meal, you need to get these deep fried egg rolls because they are a non-negotiable. Crispy on the outside and loaded with shrimp, veggies, and all sorts of goodness on the inside, it embodies perfection. If you look closely, you can tell that that the egg rolls are divided in half. We all do that thing where we leave that last piece of food awkwardly chilling on the plate out of courtesy for the other partner, while your partner is doing the exact same thing, and so eventually it gets all cold and soggy, and someone finally makes a grab for it. Definitely speaking from experience, can you tell? But at Soi, you will never have to encounter such a scenario again. They divvy it up fair and square, and I dig that. Alot. I would definitely recommend making reservations because of its notoriously waiting line.
Honestly did not expect there to be a line slithering out from the plastic warehouse-style waiting area to their front yard (just a tiny patch of grass) at 5PM LIKE WHY SO UNNECESSARY AND EXTRA but ok. Rant aside, obviously this place has been around for what seems an eternity, but I guess my coterie and I are just a bunch of lazy late risers. There's a cafe upstairs (not affiliated with Soi Yeonnam) so we just drank coffee and whiled away the time in the blessed heat and hearth with carbs. The interior of Soi Yeonnam tries to honor? harken back to? Thailand, so v cozy and homey feels. We got the most tried-and-true set of noodles, som tam, and their fried ...egg rolls (? excuse the ignoramus moment) and UMM CAN I JUST SAY there is some sort of illegal substance in the broth, cuz how else could it taste of aspirations and dreams, just so layered, so complex, and so magnificent? I preferred the texture of the thicker noodles, but to each their own (we got thick and thin). I dunno, the thinner noodles felt like I was chewing on well-boiled sticks? Obviously delicious, but I'm all for thicker noodles everything anyway. They were v generous with the peanuts and nuttiness in the som tam, which is a rarity in Korea (GET ON IT KOR). Anyway, much chewing fun. The last dish....ahh.....shattered to say I wasn't massively keen on it. The sauce and the egg rolls did not mix well together in my opinion; the sauce actually tasted different when consumed on its own vs. dipped with the egg roll. It was just anticlimactic meh. Oh!! But when eating the noodles, drink the broth as is, and then add in the sauces they provide. I was all for the Thai chili powder (memory is scant). Dunno if I'd brave the queue again, but the noodles get a feichang hao whoa.
So good. Soooo good. So so so good. Like, seriously, good. They say the wait is really long. I went at around 7:30 and only had to wait about 10 minutes. There aren't a lot of choices on the menu, which I appreciated. I went for the beef noodle soup (omg so much flavor), soi spring rolls (what are these magical things and where have they been all my life) and the papaya salad (spicy and addicting). This place is legit. They even have Thai cooks in their kitchen, which is open btw so you can see everything! Great place for a chill night :) I have to try out their sister restaurant Tuk Tuk Noodle Thai soon!
쌀국수 좋아하는 사람들이면 그냥 무조건 가야함. 맨날 먹고싶음.
อร่อย! Delicious! A small but dynamic menu brings back memories of being down small soi's in Bangkok. I tried the perfectly spicy papaya salad and it truly amazing. While a little expensive, I will definitely be back soon.
오향장육과 깐풍기가 맛있다. 오향장육은 서울내 화상 중화요리집 중에서도 수준급이다.
