I Am A Burger's reviews (188)
Trekked all the way to Hongdae, and all I got was this UMMMM amazing, astoundingly fresh, and all-around delicious burger. I know this place has been around for eons, and famous for an equivalent period of time. Suffice it to say that the 30-45 minute wait did not lie (and yes, pretty sure that's on a good day). The waiting area consisted of a tiny patio-like room, with three tiny chairs and one tiny bench, so everyone was just milling about in one cramped, hangry space. They also don't let you choose your bun on weekends, which caused much sadness, but I lived. I got their signature burger, the shrimp with onion rings, while my friends each got the original (?) aka standard burger formation of meat and the works. Whoa the pieces of shrimp were corpulent little things, with a hint of salt and pepper. Pretty sure the sauce was some aioli concoction, and damn did it go well with the shrimp et al. Overall fresh ingredients, and while it looks tiny af at first glance, it's enough for one person. Fries were just regular fries. Second picture is just gratuitous food porn shot; YOU'RE WELCOME :3
My cousin and I went there last weekend and we ordered the Mushroom Cheese Burger and the Onion & Shrimp Burger, both in the set with fries and a drink. We wanted to try both the regular fries and the cajun fries, so we ordered one each. As for the Onion&Shrimp burger, it did meet my expectations, hands down. My cousin found the patty of the Mushroom Cheese burger to be too salty. I cannot speak for myself as I did not try it. The two kinds of fries were different in shape, the cajun fries being thinner. While I usually like thinner fries, I find that the seasoning was just too salty for me personally, so I had to dip it in a lot of ketchup to make up for it. Btw, we arrived at 11:30, exactly when it opened, but there were already people waiting in line! But we didn't have to wait for too long, maybe 10 minutes or so.
Tummy Score: 8.5/10 Garlic w/ Original Bun + Cajin Fries First thing I noticed about the burger was the color layers. Very delicious looking and stacked nicely. The bun is something else, hard to explain the goodness with words. Really soft yet sturdy enough to hols the burger together. But the patty was too underwhelmed, the tenderness and juiciness was there but the taate ans seaaoning of the meat was hidden. Other than that, simple yet delicate bite. Fries are nice, hot and crunchy. Ask for small milkshake to dip fries.
I tried the Double American Cheese Burger with the cajun fries here. Overall, I would say the burger is quite good compare to other burgers that you can find in Seoul. I would recommend you to come here earlier and write down your name first, or else you will need to wait for a long time. We waited for almost 1 hour. The Double American Cheese Burger consisted of a beef patty, onion and cheese. I think the bread is not good enough, it is not crispy enough. The beef patty taste just right, it's not too salty. I also loved the cheese and onion. For the cajun fries, it will be perfect if they give me some barbecue sauce.
When you take a bite of something and it induces uncontrollable laughter and grinning, you know it's a damn fine piece of food. That first juicy bite of pineapple and beef stacked together to form a wonderful tower of flavor did this to me. It was an experience that reminded me of why I drag myself outdoors to look for good food.
